Data Definition
The number of births to women who received inadequate prenatal care. This number is represented as a percentage of all live births. Based on Kessner Index criteria, care is deemed inadequate if the mother never received prenatal care; care began in the 3rd trimester; care included 4 or fewer visits for a pregnancy of 34 or more weeks; 3 or fewer for a pregnancy of 32-33 weeks; 2 or fewer for a pregnancy of 30-31 weeks; one or fewer for a pregnancy of 22-29 weeks, or no visits for a pregnancy of 17-21 weeks.
