Internship Program Areas
Public Policy Internships
The public policy intern will work directly with one or more of the policy analysts at the center. Internships are typically project-based, and may be available in the following areas: economic opportunity (e.g., labor market, asset building, and education), health care access, nutrition policy, child protection, budget, and taxes. The intern may assist with the policy work of the policy analysts through data analysis; historical or other background research; analysis of current administrative policies, state statues, or bill language.
Texas KIDS COUNT Internship
Texas KIDS COUNT is a project of the center that provides the latest and most accurate county-by-county data on child well-being. The intern will work directly with the Texas KIDS COUNT director to collect, manage, and analyze data, as well as assist with drafting materials, preparing presentations, and updating databases. Texas KIDS COUNT broadly covers each of the center’s policy areas (family economic security, economic opportunity, nutrition, health care, child protection, and budget and taxes) and attempts to find synthesis across these areas to assess the overall well-being of Texas’ children. Note: Graduate students only.
Communications Internship
The intern will work directly with the communications director to help promote the center's mission by implementing our strategic communications plan, which may include media relations work, writing and editing, and coordinating the center’s social media efforts.
Nonprofit Management Internship
The intern will work with the development director and/or the director of administration and finance, including assisting with event planning and marketing, networking, and foundation research. Additionally, the intern will help the development director update and develop donor lists and research fundraising opportunities.
